Not reassurance. Not bypassing. Just what the tradition itself teaches.
Myth
Feeling fear or negativity during jap means something is wrong.
Reality
Several practitioners have told us exactly this fear. The tradition has an answer, not a dismissal. The Mandukya Upanishad describes deep practice surfacing what was suppressed — this is purification, not danger. The Shiva Purana compares it to cleaning a room: it gets messier before it gets cleaner. The Padma Purana holds that old karma surfaces during jap so it can be burned, not created. And the Bhagavad Gita (18.30) teaches that fear itself arises from an inability to distinguish the real from the unreal — the practice is precisely what restores that clarity.
Myth
You have to pronounce every syllable perfectly or the mantra does not count.
Reality
Sincerity, bhava, matters more than flawless technique. Tradition holds that devotion carried in the intention reaches further than perfection carried without it.
Myth
More japs, faster, is always better.
Reality
A slower, steady mala chanted with attention is traditionally held above a rushed one. Rhythm and presence are the measure, not speed alone.
